You'd be suprised by what you can create with a bit of trash!

These stairs are so cool!  At Toronto’s Roarockit Skateboard School, they used skateboard decks to build a stairway.  It appears the decks were custom made for the stairs, but this would be a creative way to upcycle old decks.
I tell people i recycle & create stuff with junk, preloved, found, new used or needed, liquidated stock, or stock that is at the end of its season ranges that will eventually either end in landfill or op shops. So often times when i say this they assumed my creations are well, shit. Im certain my mother assumed this at some stage till i told her i made money and people like this eco sustainability niche stuff.

This post is to show those people that the world is your oyster. Think outside the box. Theres alot you can recreate from trash etc.

Ecoist have created amazing ways to upcycle and jazz up a boring light bulb...esp. love the blender light!!
Ive been dreaming for many many years about a house or industrial apartment building made entirely of recycled trash & treasures. Every apartment room designed differently from the next. Unique.

So i guess I'll go through with what my dream recycled home might be like...lets pretend. (^_^)

The building...may have balconies & a balcony across the moat to the other side (is that the word?)

i kinda like this concept,

Young Designers Market @ South Bank

Well i was taking it easy pushing stock for my colleges YDM stall in July but my slight dyslexia got in the way. Luckily i checked last Wednesday or i woulda missed out again! But the main design i was really super keen on entering wasnt ready.
Photos from the past the start of the day, did that make sense?

Some of these were supposed to be pendants too but ran out of flat back charms, i also misplaced some too...I basically rushed this collection. But all in all, i reckon i did really well for myself!! I am oh so very proud!! I made $36 for a days work! Thats better than nothing, right?

I swear i sold more than that, apparently my stuff is under priced but you know what, i am hardly in it for the money but i guess something has pay rent, get teo & haru wet food, my food, get to college etc.

These pendants, ring, brooches are all made from recycled junk linoleum floor tiles, off cuts from wood shapes like letters & alphabets etc, postcards like free advant cards, photo images that i didnt end using for inspiration/mood/design boards. Resin jewelry uses stale or expired foods, or found objects.
Intro YDM sale Rings were $4   Brooches $5-7[ Mark Ryden-Tree Nurse is actually a brooch & necklace in one...$14]

Rings $6   Earrings $4 Brooch(green) $7
Everything is Recycled except the jewelry findings on most of these but usually i do recycle old jewelry.

Necklace  $15
This collection was inspired by my sister Rae who likes photography & my friend Natalie from Total Immortal Photography also among other friends and their interests. Like my friend Sam who loves dinosaurs like i love owls & cats...
LOOK!! Lady Gaga Earrings!!!     $6
Cant see it but i had a resin ring made from old shriveled garlic!!
It amazes me how many people guess before they realise its garlic.
Wish i took an upclose photo! But will ask Leanne from Young Eves to send me a photo of her new ring & brooch!!

Im not a gaga fan but i know people who are and assumed these would sell!!

Large Pendants [recycled postcards] $10
w/ chain $15

Brooches $7      Rings $5     Necklace $15

Recycled Sylvia Ji Photo Image Brooch    $7

Also in resin jewelry Im working on another batch, filled w/ more stale cereals, pasta/ramen, lollies, garlic/all kinds of fruits & veges, cardboard & other packaging, **cough cough** unused (of course) kitty litter...it has a really nice texture to it..(Im always stepping on some pistols that Teo kicks out!)., bird seeds, lint, cat fur (cos Haru sheds a lot!)

Some would say im telling waaay too much info for a "designer", am i? Should i stop talking?

Also from today i had popped a garment up on the half mannequin, you sorta can see the straps very well but will pop them up on the dummy at school or do a tiny photo shoot soon!! With Total Immortal Photography w/ her sister Claudia & Sam Dinosaur...they dont know it yet! Lol. But they're gonna do it...i'll bribe them with chocolate...or vegan food!! yeeeh!

There was 3 singlets like these but different colours and prints or should i say shibori techniques. I specialize in more experimental textiles side to fashion.

I should take more photos of my stuff!! Remind me later yes?! Thanks....

Well the feet are freezing, hot water bottle needs a refill (recycled water...it gets its own kettle...i once tasted the water from the water bottle by accident- tasted like poisonous rubber...) yeh never again!

Cool i hope you like what u saw...will be getting some business cards from moo & also getting a diy self inking stamping kit for swing tags...& if you bring it with you next time you visit me i might take 5% off your next purchase!!! Sound rad, right?

Well this is it for me tonight.

XOXO nellie

Something new, old, borrowed & blue

For years I have suffered with depression. Most days my brain never switches off, leading to melt downs. I think of my problems as mentos in cola bottles toward the end or a kinked hose, you have no idea why the water isnt coming out so you turn the tap further then suddenly it unkinks and the hose explodes.

Well although my life seems pretty easy if you were to see me sitting around chilling on the couch or still in bed having casual nanna naps instead of doing housework, working or sewing - living my dream.

My dream is and always would be when growing up was to be a shop keeper.  Creating interesting things made from recycled goods. When i was young, creating stuff from recycled goods was silly and usually only for kids in grade school or child care workers. I remember in high school art (year 2002) i made a fruit loop necklace made from real fruit loops, everyone thought it was a mad concept, but through trial and error- it was just that - an error. Varnish made it yellow, shellac shouldnt have been considered, and well back then epoxy resin wasnt available as easily as it is now.
I reconsidered trialling this food jewellery yet again after finding that gross discoloured necklace in a box of memories at my mothers place last year.

So i have a few ideas up my sleeve. Bought a silicone & resin kit. But unfortunately the wrong resin so gonna get another one soon and hope my new jewellery line is a success. I have loads of candies lined up to be dipped. They had a few coats of clear coat varnish and some yellowing occurred on some but i can use that to my avantage. No waste here.

Which is good b/c thats how i stumbled upon my creation besides finding fruit loops. Haha.

I've been on a journey now to research if others have thought the same as I. It turns out usually nothing is new, everyone thinks the same. Our ideas are usually that of someone else. Or so we are to believe?
Australian Jewellery Designer:Minnette: Her take on lollies

I was shuffling through some of my mothers old fabrics and found some creations that back then in the early 90s were awesome but my sister and i laughed about that would never have caught on. When i did see them arise in later years. It was then and now i have come to appreciate what she thought of and created. Be proud of what you invent.

If we kids hadn't of laughed at my mothers creations such as the detachable arm guard sleeves you wear to protect your arms from sunburn when driving. Or the waistband belt type thing, i do believe its called the tummy sleeve and is now used by pregnant woman, but this "belt" became popular when chicks were wearing low waist jeans and ass cracks were often accidentally being displayed.

Now losing track of this blog entry is about, again... (my head feels heavy and ghosts are haunting my teeth), so i'll wrap it up with....BE PROUD OF WHAT YOU CREATE!!! even if people laugh and say its stupid....<3

I wish the skies would shower...

Its starting to feel like summer again, In a way I hate that feeling...I get dehydrated way to quickly. I'm usually lazy with drinking liquids and eating when it's too hot. You could say im like a cat. They only eat , sleep, trying to use the box, nag, be cranky etc.

It makes me feel like i should move everything into the bathroom and do day to day tasks while sitting in the bath tub. I have an air-con but evil wizards live in there and having lazy cats who like them but as i said are too LAZY or erh dumb to notice them lately, we had 5 running around the walls last night. None of which were attacked or even chased.

Today i'm officially enrolled in Fashion design yet again! Finish up on 2 subjects i dropped last year cos i got sick. Rejoining friends around campus! Yippee! It was cheaper than i realised however diploma subjects wont be and i'll need to resave money for my 8 part trouser dressmakers dummy.

THIS NEXT CHAPTER HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ME- THE MONEY RAISED ON THESE AUCTIONS WILL GO TOWARDS QLD FLOOD APPEAL.

I've moved a lot in my time and I'm only 24. The homes or areas i once lived in went underwater or close to being underwater. My hometown [Caboolture] always had a problem with flash flooding. I've never seen it as this bad and hearing my brother was stranded at work, no recent word from my mum, I was worried. As soon as they put my suburb to that list so was my mum. Ha! She called my Aunt called- are you ok? are u flooded yet?
It was only the back half of our suburb that was underwater. Enough about me...

Intro: Teo & Haru

im getting close to bored being limited to certain places.
i started this blog to get my ideas and designs out there with others alike. Share ideas of others as well in hopes that we all unite as one in the fight (?) to reduce unnecessary waste.
Tomorrow i wish to sew something awesome to keep me sane. Not only is flood news making me depressed so is my cats. Im certain my house wont be affected but our power might be again. Trapping the kids inside has well been making them get bizarre and im ready to scream. <--HARU: generally scared of everything, not easily amused, rarely naughty, generally quiet & shy, high anxiety, soft & fluffy, clean! not smelly! loves belly scratches, likes to nibble mummy. usually hiding under my bed TEO--> always naughty, hunger curious, bizarre & wild, fearless, loves to attack daddy! stinky & messy, likes to tackle/rape Haru. They're brothers & both desexed.  Teo just gets frisky. He's the opposite Haru.

so, what to do when your basically cut off from common friends and family...

If you haven't heard the news yet, well Ipswich, Toowoomba, Gatton, Esk BRISBANE, Caboolture, Strathpine etc have been evacuated and under water. My suburb was also added to the get out of town list, this afternoon just after i created this blog thing my power got cut off...we raced off in my car to "gork" at what the fuss was in my area. off to markets for supplies. local woolies (10mins away) was shut down- no power there too! i mentioned garden city but i was ignored. nothing new there. men and selective hearing. pssh! well it was basically deserted yay more food options. haha.

so i guess what im getting at is, if your bored, stuck inside, depressed by the flood news start a blog. complain online. offer something in support of Qld flood victims.
